The OSG 2590801 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal metric threads in production and repair applications. Built from vanadium high-speed steel (HSS-E) with a steam oxide coating, this plug chamfer tap drives chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. It produces an M5x0.80 metric coarse thread to a 6H class of fit, with a 3-flute geometry that balances cutting efficiency and chip clearance. Overall length is 2.756 inches, with a thread cutting length of 0.875 inches (7/8 inch). Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics routinely use this tap in both manual and CNC tapping setups.
This tap is rated for use in a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including aluminum, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The plug chamfer distributes the cutting load across the first few threads, making it a reliable choice for through-hole applications in production environments. It is not configured for coolant-through delivery and does not cut an interrupted thread pattern. Shank diameter is 0.194 inches, and the square drive size is 6.35 mm for use with standard tap holders and wrenches.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use spiral point tap for any application requiring an M5x0.80 metric coarse, 6H class of fit, right-hand thread in through-hole configurations. Part of OSG Series 259.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before engagement. Power down or de-energize any CNC or drill press equipment before changing tooling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality.
