The OSG 2494603 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a nitride coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during tapping operations. It cuts a 7/16-14 UNC right-hand thread to an H3 thread limit, making it suitable for applications where precise thread tolerance is required. With 4 flutes and a bottoming chamfer, it is optimized for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Machinists and maintenance professionals use this tap in both manual and machine tapping setups.
The 2494603 is intended for use in machine tapping and hand tapping applications across manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments. Its bottoming chamfer allows threading to within a few threads of the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for situations where a full thread engagement near the hole bottom is required. The nitride coating improves performance in aluminum and cast iron, two of the listed material applications. It is a Series 240 tap from OSG.
Rated for use in aluminum and cast iron material applications. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling selection for any setup requiring a 7/16-14 UNC bottoming tap to H3 tolerance.
Machining professionals should ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before tapping. Power down or disengage the drive before changing taps in a machine setup. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped, particularly with cast iron or aluminum. Follow standard shop practices and applicable machine safety protocols when operating tapping equipment.
