The OSG 2410603 is a straight flute machine tap designed for threading M5x0.80 metric coarse internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a nitride coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and heat dissipation during cutting. The bottoming chamfer style allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for tight-tolerance applications. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 0.875-inch thread length, this tap fits standard machine tapping setups used in production and job-shop environments. A licensed machinist or tooling technician is the typical end user.
This tap is rated for use in aluminum and cast iron. The bottoming chamfer and D5 thread limit designation make it a common choice when close-to-bottom thread engagement is required in blind-hole applications. The straight flute geometry is effective in short-chipping materials where chip evacuation is manageable without helical flute action. It is suited for both manual and CNC tapping operations where M5 metric coarse threads are specified.
Designed for use in aluminum and cast iron workpieces requiring M5x0.80 metric coarse internal threads. Part of OSG Series 241.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or tooling technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engaging. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to reduce friction and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if thread quality degrades.
