The OSG 2217801 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and alloy materials. It produces an 8-32 UNC right-hand thread using a modified bottoming chamfer, making it well-suited for threading into blind holes where a standard plug tap cannot reach the bottom. The tap is machined from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating that reduces friction and helps resist galling during the tapping operation. With 3 flutes and a 45-degree helix angle, chips are efficiently evacuated out of the hole, reducing the risk of tap breakage in tougher materials.
