Product Description

The OSG 220-1570 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 22, with a decimal diameter of 0.1570 inches (3.99 mm). It features a 118-degree web-thinned point and a regular spiral flute configuration for efficient chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This bit is part of OSG Series 220D and is built for general-purpose drilling in production and maintenance environments. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and metal fabricators use this bit for blind hole, cross hole, through hole, and self-centering drilling operations where tight diameter tolerances are required.

This bit is designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, and N. Its solid carbide construction makes it well suited for demanding applications where high-speed steel tooling wears prematurely. Typical use cases include CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power drill operations where repeatable hole quality at small diameters is critical. The bright uncoated finish is standard for carbide bits used across a broad range of base materials.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for extended tool life in hard and abrasive materials
  • 118-degree web-thinned point reduces thrust and improves self-centering
  • Regular spiral flute with 1.375 inches (34.90 mm) flute length promotes chip clearance
  • Straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters
  • Diameter tolerance of plus 0 to minus 0.013 mm for consistent hole sizing
  • Rated for blind hole, cross hole, drilling, and self-centering tool applications

Compatibility

Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and power drills accepting a 3.99 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate.

Installation Notes

Install in a compatible drill chuck and verify shank seating and runout before beginning a cut. Power down or de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing tooling. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to side loads or impact; use appropriate feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cutting zone is recommended for extended drilling cycles in ferrous materials.
