The OSG 220-1540 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in No. 23 wire size (0.1540 inch / 3.91 mm diameter). It features a 118-degree web-thinned point and a regular spiral flute geometry, producing clean entry and controlled chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a flute length of 1.375 inches, this drill fits standard drill chucks via its straight cylindrical shank. The bright, uncoated finish makes it well-suited for general-purpose drilling where coating buildup is not a concern. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics use this bit in CNC machines, drill presses, and hand-held power drills.
The OSG 220-1540 Series 220D drill is intended for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It handles blind holes, cross holes, through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications without a pilot. Its right-hand cutting direction and tapered web configuration make it a common choice on manual and CNC equipment in job shops, fabrication facilities, and MRO settings where consistent dimensional tolerance is required.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill for use in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering operations per OSG Series 220D specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with proper chuck torque and spindle speed selection for carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a drill chuck or collet before operation, and confirm runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature chipping of the carbide. Do not exceed recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material, and apply cutting fluid or coolant as appropriate to extend tool life. Inspect the drill point for chipping or wear before each use.
