The OSG 220-1406 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. Ground to a 118-degree point angle with web thinning for easier self-centering entry, this bit cuts with a right-hand spiral flute pattern that efficiently evacuates chips during drilling. The bright uncoated finish preserves tight diameter tolerances of plus 0 to minus 0.013 mm, making it a dependable choice for general-purpose production work. With a 9/64-inch diameter, a 1-3/8-inch flute length, and a 2-1/2-inch overall length, it fits standard drill chucks without adapters.
This bit is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in a wide range of materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The straight-cylindrical shank makes it compatible with conventional chuck setups found on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drill motors. It is used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals across light manufacturing and fabrication environments. Series 220D construction targets general-purpose performance across both ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use on steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, general drilling, and self-centering operations as part of the OSG Series 220D jobber drill lineup.
Solid carbide drill bits are installed and operated by machinists and CNC technicians in drill presses or machining centers. Ensure the spindle and chuck are clean and free of runout before seating the shank to protect the bit from premature chipping. Solid carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel; avoid side loading or using this bit in hand-held drill motors where lateral forces cannot be controlled. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life, even though this bit does not have a coolant-through design.
