The OSG 220-1405 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in the Series 220D, designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. Ground to a No. 28 wire gauge size (0.1405 inches decimal equivalent), it features a 118-degree web-thinned point and a regular spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation. The overall length is 2.5 inches with a flute length of 1.375 inches. The bright uncoated finish suits general-purpose drilling and makes it easy to inspect cutting edges for wear. This bit is installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and precision fabricators working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
The OSG 220-1405 is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, through holes, and self-centering applications. Its solid carbide construction handles demanding workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes. It is a general-purpose tool appropriate for production and maintenance environments where consistent hole quality and tight diameter tolerances are required.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber drill for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of the appropriate diameter. Suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machine tools where No. 28 wire-size carbide tooling is specified.
This bit is installed by machinists and fabricators and does not require trade licensing, but proper machine guarding and eye protection per OSHA machining standards apply. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before cutting. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when machining stainless steel or cast iron to manage heat.
