The OSG 215-2500 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. Built from solid carbide with a bright/uncoated finish, it delivers consistent performance in demanding materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, titanium, and aluminum silicate. The bit features a 135-degree split point for accurate self-centering and reduced walking on entry. With a right-hand cut, slow spiral flute design, and web-thinned tapered web configuration, it is engineered for general-purpose use across a wide range of shop and production environments. The straight-cylindrical shank ensures secure seating in standard drill chucks and collets.
This drill bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines where screw machine length tooling is specified. The shorter overall length of 2.5 inches provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a preferred choice when drilling shallow holes in tough alloys or cast materials. It is commonly used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working in industrial, manufacturing, and fabrication settings. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports adequate chip evacuation at typical feed and speed parameters for this bit size.

Installation and use of solid carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with proper speeds, feeds, and workholding practices. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation to prevent runout or pullout. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so flood coolant or cutting oil applied externally is recommended when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloys, or titanium. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and do not run a chipped or cracked carbide bit.
