The OSG 215-2010 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 215 standards, it features a 0.201 inch (No. 7 wire gauge) diameter, a 135-degree split point with web thinning, and a slow spiral flute geometry that promotes chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks. At 2.25 inches overall length with a 1.1875 inch flute length, this stub-length bit delivers rigidity and reduced deflection compared to jobber-length alternatives. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and precision sheet metal fabricators are the primary installers.
This bit is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloys. The screw machine length format makes it appropriate for CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and turret lathes where short tool overhang and high rigidity are required. It performs well in production environments where hole location accuracy and tool life consistency are critical. The bright uncoated finish is standard for carbide tooling used across a broad range of workpiece materials without specialized coating requirements.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems in CNC and manual machine tool setups. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy as specified in the product data.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine powered down and all spindle motion stopped. Secure the straight cylindrical shank in a properly sized collet or drill chuck to the manufacturer-recommended clamping depth to prevent slippage and runout. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to side loads or used in worn spindles with excessive runout. Follow applicable ANSI and OSHA machine guarding requirements when operating drill presses or machining centers.
