The OSG 215-1406 is a screw machine length drill bit ground from solid carbide with a 135-degree split-point geometry and web-thinned tip. Designed for short, rigid setups, this bit cuts a 0.1405-inch (No. 28 wire gauge / 9/64 inch) diameter hole with a right-hand spiral. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose drilling where coating chemistry is not required. With an overall length of 1-15/16 inches and a 15/16-inch flute length, it fits standard screw machine and CNC lathe tooling arrangements. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision fabricators install this bit in production and maintenance drilling operations.
This drill bit is rated for use in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces. The slow spiral and tapered web configuration make it well suited to deep chip evacuation in tough materials. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks, collets, and quick-change holders without an adapter. Typical applications include tapping pre-drill operations, close-tolerance hole production, and toolroom work where a screw machine length stub drill provides better rigidity than a jobber-length bit.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill for use in standard drill chucks, collets, and quick-change holders accepting a 0.1406-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines requiring No. 28 wire gauge tooling.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the specified grip depth before cycling the spindle. Ensure the machine is at a full stop and de-energized before changing tooling. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloy, or titanium to manage heat and tool life.
