The OSG 1982600 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal metric fine threads in a wide range of materials. It produces an M10x1.00 thread profile using a 3-flute, plug chamfer geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well-suited for through-hole applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright finish, the tap measures 74.6 millimeters in overall length with a thread length of 1.25 inches (19.8 millimeters). It carries a right-hand thread direction and a D5 thread limit, which indicates a tighter tolerance class appropriate for general-purpose precision threading work. This tap is part of OSG Series 142.
This tap is used in machining, maintenance, and repair applications where metric fine thread profiles are required. M10x1.00 metric fine taps are commonly selected over coarse-pitch alternatives when higher thread engagement strength, finer adjustment, or reduced axial advance per revolution is needed. Typical use cases include threading bores in automotive components, machinery housings, and precision assemblies. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals using standard tap handles, machine tap holders, or CNC tapping spindles.
Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Fits standard tap holders and machine spindles accepting a 0.381-inch (9.6774 millimeter) shank diameter. Compatible with manual tap wrenches and CNC tapping attachments designed for that shank size.
This tap is installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using appropriate tap holders sized to the shank diameter. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and a suitable cutting fluid is applied before tapping to extend tool life and improve thread quality. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material being threaded. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if damaged to avoid thread damage or breakage in the bore.
