The OSG 1982100 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting M2.5x0.45 metric coarse threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright finish, it features 2 flutes and a plug chamfer that pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited for clean, efficient tapping in production and maintenance environments. The D3 thread limit and 6H class of fit deliver consistent thread tolerance for standard metric fastener engagement. With an overall length of 46 millimeters and a thread length of 12.8 millimeters, this tap is compact and direct for small-diameter work. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
The OSG 1982100 is rated for use across a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. This versatility makes it a practical single-tap choice for shops and field technicians working across mixed-material jobs. It is appropriate for both manual tapping and CNC or drill-press operations where a right-hand spiral point tap in the M2.5 range is required. Sold individually, it fits standard tap holders accepting a 3.5814 millimeter shank diameter.
Designed for through-hole tapping of M2.5x0.45 metric coarse threads. Compatible with standard tap holders and chucks accepting a 0.1410 inch (3.5814 millimeter) shank diameter. Rated for aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel per OSG Series 142 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or technician familiar with tapping operations and cutting tool safety. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole to prevent tap breakage in this small diameter range. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. For CNC or power-feed operations, verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for M2.5 taps before engaging the cut.
