The OSG 1981608 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to an M10x1.50 metric coarse standard. Built from high-speed steel with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding tapping operations. The plug chamfer style allows progressive thread engagement, making it well-suited for through-hole applications. With 3 flutes and a D6 thread limit, it holds a 6H class of fit — a standard tolerance range for general-purpose metric fastener threads. Overall length is 74.6 mm (approximately 2.94 inches), with a thread length of 19.8 mm (1.25 inches) and a shank diameter of 9.68 mm (0.381 inches).
This tap is used in machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and field maintenance settings where metric threaded holes are required. It performs across a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The TiCN coating reduces friction and heat buildup, which is particularly valuable when tapping harder alloys or in high-volume production runs. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines where through-hole threading is performed.
Compatible with materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Designed for through-hole metric M10x1.50 tapping applications in machine or hand tapping setups.
This tap should be installed in a proper tap holder or collet sized to the 0.381-inch shank diameter before use. Power down or de-energize any machine tool before securing or changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tap lubricant for the workpiece material — particularly important when tapping hardened steel or cast iron. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when setting spindle speed and feed rate for the material being tapped.
