The OSG 1973100 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting right-hand metric coarse threads to an M7x1.00 specification. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it produces clean internal threads in a wide range of metals and is well suited to production and maintenance machining environments. The plug chamfer - typically 3 to 5 threads - makes it the standard choice for through-hole and most blind-hole applications. Four flutes provide balanced cutting geometry and adequate chip clearance for the materials this tap is rated to handle. Thread limit is D5, indicating a Class 6H tolerance fit consistent with standard metric fastener assemblies.
This tap is intended for use in machining and fabrication shops, tool rooms, and maintenance operations where M7x1.00 metric coarse threaded holes are required. It is suited for hand tapping or machine tapping operations in materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The straight flute design works best in through-hole applications or short blind holes where chips can be cleared from the entry side. It belongs to OSG Series 141.
Rated for tapping aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Suitable for hand tapping and machine tapping setups that accommodate an 8.772 mm (0.3180 inch) shank diameter.
Machinists and toolroom technicians should ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before engagement to avoid tap breakage or thread damage. A correctly sized tap drill hole is critical - use the standard M7x1.00 tap drill diameter per applicable reference charts before tapping. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material; do not run this tap dry in steel. When machine tapping, set spindle speed and feed rate to match the high-speed steel tap limits for the material being cut.
