The OSG 1766301 is a spiral flute extension tap designed for right-hand threading in tight or deep-reach applications. Built from Vanadium High-Speed Steel (VHSS) with a steam oxide finish, this tap handles carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. It runs a 6-32 UNC thread form, H3 thread limit, and 2B class of fit, making it a dependable choice for precision threaded hole production. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes. At 4 inches overall length with a reduced shank, it reaches into recessed locations that standard-length taps cannot access. Licensed machinists and maintenance technicians typically specify this tool for production threading and repair work.
This tap is suited for threading 6-32 UNC blind and through holes in carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. The spiral flute geometry evacuates chips up and out of the hole, which reduces clogging in blind-hole applications. With a 30-degree helix angle and three flutes, it provides balanced cutting action across a range of material hardnesses. The reduced shank and extended neck give clearance when working inside machine cavities or fixture setups where a standard tap body would interfere.
Designed for threading 6-32 UNC holes in carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Compatible with standard tap holders and extension tap drivers that accept a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists, tool and die makers, or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, machine spindle, or CNC tapping attachment. Always secure the workpiece firmly and apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, and never force a tap that has stopped advancing. Follow applicable shop safety standards when operating rotating cutting tools.
