The OSG 17510711 is an extra length cobalt drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling in ferrous metals, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys. Built from M6K-grade cobalt high-speed steel with a WXL finish, this bit delivers heat and wear resistance that standard HSS bits cannot match in demanding production or maintenance environments. The 3/8 inch (0.375 inch) diameter and 120-degree standard point angle suit a wide range of metal-cutting applications. With an overall length of approximately 9.45 inches and a flute length of approximately 6.77 inches, it reaches depths that jobber-length bits cannot. A licensed machinist, maintenance technician, or industrial tradesperson will typically install this bit into a drill press, CNC machining center, or heavy-duty hand drill with a compatible chuck.
This bit is suited for production drilling, tool-and-die work, maintenance repair operations, and metalworking applications requiring extended reach. The right-hand cutting direction and fast spiral flute type promote efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole passes. The tapered web configuration and R-thinned web reduce entry thrust and help center the bit cleanly without a pilot hole in many setups. It is appropriate for use in ferrous metals and alloys where cobalt grades are specified over standard HSS.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-fit extra length drill bit for use in standard 3/8 inch drill chucks, collet holders, and CNC tool holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of 0.3750 inch diameter.
Installation of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained tradesperson familiar with metal-cutting tooling. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Secure the shank with the appropriate chuck key or collet torque to the tool holder manufacturer's specification before initiating a cut. When drilling deep holes, retract the bit periodically to clear chips and prevent heat buildup, particularly in stainless or high-alloy materials.
