The OSG 1735005 is a standard NPT pipe tap designed to cut 1/16-27 internal pipe threads in metal components. It features 4 flutes ground from vanadium high-speed steel and carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that increases surface hardness and extends tool life in high-cycle production environments. With an overall length of 2.126 inches and a thread length of 0.6875 inches, this tap is sized for small-diameter pipe thread applications. It is used by machinists, pipefitters, and plumbing tradespeople when threading ports, fittings, and manifold bodies to NPT specification.
This tap suits applications in carbon steel and stainless steel workpieces where a leak-tight NPT thread form is required. Common install scenarios include threading instrument ports, hydraulic manifold inlets, small valve bodies, and HVAC or refrigeration line fittings. The 1/16-27 NPT thread size is frequently encountered in instrumentation connections, pressure gauge ports, and small-bore gas or fluid lines. It is part of OSG Series 308 and is sold individually.
Designed for cutting NPT internal pipe threads in carbon steel and stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for use with standard tapping chucks, tap wrenches, and CNC tapping heads that accept a 0.3125-inch shank with a 0.2340-inch square drive.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or pipefitter familiar with NPT thread requirements. Secure the workpiece and use an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being threaded. Apply steady, consistent pressure and back off periodically to clear chips, especially in stainless steel. Verify finished thread fit with a calibrated NPT plug gauge before assembly.
