The OSG 1731805 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 3/4-10 UNC right-hand threads in through-hole applications. Built from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tap delivers extended tool life and improved chip evacuation compared to standard uncoated taps. The 3-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited for continuous through-hole tapping operations. With an H3 thread limit, the tap produces threads within a controlled tolerance range appropriate for standard UNC fastener fits. Overall length is 4.252 inches with a 1.251-inch thread length and a 0.59-inch shank diameter.
This tap is intended for threading operations in ferrous materials including low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. It is sized for 3/4-10 UNC, a coarse-thread designation commonly found in structural, mechanical, and industrial assembly applications. The plug chamfer style - with a 3 to 5 thread lead-in - makes it appropriate for through-hole tapping where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. It is used in both manual tapping setups and CNC machining centers, though coolant-through capability is not featured on this model.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 3/4-10 UNC threads in low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Not rated for interrupted threads and does not support coolant-through delivery.
This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap holder or CNC toolholder with runout minimized to prevent premature wear or tap breakage. Before tapping, confirm the drilled hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for 3/4-10 UNC. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, especially when tapping stainless or hardened steel. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping between uses, as a damaged tap can produce out-of-tolerance threads or seize in the workpiece.
