The OSG 1703201 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a range of demanding materials. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing threads to be formed close to the bottom of blind holes. Built from powdered metal with a steam oxide coating, this tap offers improved lubricity and corrosion resistance compared to standard high-speed steel. The 3-flute spiral design evacuates chips upward and away from the cutting zone, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind hole applications. With a 15-degree helix angle and H4 thread limit, it holds tight tolerances on thread form. Installed by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians, it suits both manual and machine tapping setups.
This tap is intended for use in blind hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. It is rated for use in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloy workpieces. Its modified bottoming chamfer and spiral flute geometry make it particularly well suited for short through-holes and production environments where consistent thread quality is required. Right-hand thread direction matches standard fastener orientation for 10-32 UNF applications.
Designed for cutting 10-32 UNF right-hand internal threads in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloy workpieces. Part of OSG Series 313.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations and machine setup. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tapping spindle is properly aligned before operation to avoid tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless steel or titanium. Power down and de-energize any machine tool before changing or inspecting taps.
