The OSG 1681600 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting 11/16-24 UNEF internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers reliable performance in production and maintenance threading applications. The bottoming chamfer allows the tap to cut threads close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the correct choice when full thread depth near the base is required. With 6 flutes and an H3 thread limit, this tap holds tight tolerances suited to precision threading work. Overall length is 4-1/32 inches with a thread length of 1-13/16 inches.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. It is commonly used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and manufacturing environments where UNEF fine-pitch threads are required. The 11/16-24 UNEF specification makes it appropriate for precision mechanical assemblies that call for fine thread engagement. Installation is performed in a drill press, tapping head, CNC machining center, or by hand with a tap wrench, depending on the application and material.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use straight flute tap for any application requiring 11/16-24 UNEF right-hand internal threads in aluminum, cast iron, or carbon steel workpieces.
This tap should be installed by a machinist or tooling technician familiar with tapping operations and proper speeds and feeds for the workpiece material. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before applying torque to avoid tap breakage. Use a cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. For blind-hole applications, clear chips periodically to prevent packing and tap failure.
