The OSG 1654501508 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 3/4-10 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from powdered metal with a V coating, it delivers extended wear resistance compared to standard HSS taps. The 45-degree helix angle evacuates chips upward through the flutes, making it well suited for blind and semi-bottoming hole applications where chip packing is a common cause of tap failure. With a thread length of 1 inch and an overall length of 4.921 inches, this tap fits standard tapping heads and CNC rigid-tapping setups. It produces a 2B class of fit, the standard tolerance range for most general-purpose fastener assemblies. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed production runs where heat management is critical.
This tap is intended for use in machine tapping operations across production and job-shop environments. It is appropriate for both CNC machining centers and dedicated tapping machines running rigid or floating tap holders. The 2B thread tolerance and H5 thread limit suit applications where standard bolts and cap screws will be assembled into the tapped hole. Material application coverage is broad, including low-, medium-, and high-carbon steel, alloy steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, and cast aluminum, making it a practical single-tap solution across mixed-material workloads.
Designed for machine tapping of 3/4-10 UNC threads in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. Part of OSG Series 16545.
Installation should be performed by a machinist or CNC operator familiar with rigid and floating tapping cycles. Confirm spindle RPM and feed rate are set to values appropriate for the workpiece material and tap diameter before starting the cycle. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to avoid bell-mouthing or tap breakage. Always use the recommended cutting fluid or activate coolant-through flow before engaging the tap.
