The OSG 1653503108 is a spiral point tap designed for threading through-holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Part of the EXOTAP VC-10 Series 16535 line, it features a plug chamfer, three flutes, and a right-hand thread direction in a 3/8-24 thread size. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel (HSS) and finished with a TiCN coating, which improves wear resistance and reduces friction during cutting. An H4 thread limit and 2B class of fit make it suitable for standard inch-thread tolerance applications. Overall length is 5.96 inches with a thread length of 0.929 inches.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading operations across residential, commercial, and industrial environments. It is used in applications involving alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. The spiral point design pushes chips ahead of the tap, making it most effective in through-hole applications where chip evacuation is not restricted. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with CNC equipment or manual machines will find this tap appropriate for consistent, repeatable threading tasks.
Designed as an OEM-style threading tool for through-hole tapping operations in materials including alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel.
Installation of this tap should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using appropriate tapping equipment set to the correct spindle speed and feed rate for the material being threaded. Power down all equipment and secure the workpiece before tool changes. Do not use this tap in blind holes where chip packing may occur, as the spiral point geometry is designed for through-hole applications. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for lubrication and cutting fluid selection based on the workpiece material.
