The OSG 1651503608 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for threading 9/16-12 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from powdered metal with a TiCN coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and longer tool life compared to standard HSS taps. The plug chamfer style allows the tap to be used in through-hole applications where the cutting action is distributed across the leading threads. With 3 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it follows standard tapping conventions for most production and maintenance environments. This tap carries an H5 thread limit and a 2B class of fit, making it suitable for general-purpose threaded fastener applications.
This tap is intended for use in machining and maintenance operations across manufacturing, fabrication, and industrial MRO environments. It is appropriate for through-hole tapping in materials including alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. It is typically used with a tapping head, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench depending on the production context.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 9/16-12 UNC threads in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. Part of OSG Series 16515.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping procedures and cutting tool safety. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before engagement. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the material being tapped to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and do not force a worn or damaged tap.
