The OSG 1651503208 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. The plug chamfer geometry guides the tap into the workpiece with a gradual thread engagement, and the 3-flute spiral point pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, keeping the flutes clear during through-hole tapping. Overall length is 4.331 inches with a thread length of 0.921 inches. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping operations on machining centers, CNC lathes, drill presses, and manual tapping setups where a right-hand 1/2-13 UNC thread to a 2B class of fit is required. It is engineered for use in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. The H5 thread limit makes it appropriate for applications requiring consistent tolerance control across production runs.
Designed for cutting right-hand 1/2-13 UNC threads to a 2B class of fit in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. Part of OSG Series 16515.
This tap is installed by machinists or toolroom technicians using a standard tap holder, tapping head, or rigid CNC tapping cycle. Before use, confirm the pilot hole diameter is correct for a 1/2-13 UNC thread and that the workpiece is securely fixtured. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless or hardened steel. Do not reverse the tap under load without proper backlash compensation on manual setups.
