The OSG 1651500808 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and tool life over standard HSS taps. The 3-flute, plug chamfer geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole applications. With a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit, it produces threads to standard tolerance for typical fastener and assembly applications. Overall length is 2.48 inches with a 0.374-inch thread length.
This tap is used in production and maintenance machining environments where 8-32 UNC threads are required in through-hole configurations. The TiCN coating and powdered metal substrate make it a strong choice for harder work materials including alloy steel, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, hardened steel, die steel, cast iron, and aluminum alloys. This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the target material. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct tap drill size for 8-32 UNC is used before tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the work material, particularly when tapping stainless or hardened steels. Do not reverse the tap under load without adequate lubrication, and avoid forcing the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly.
