The OSG 1651500608 is a spiral point tap designed for right-hand threading in through-hole applications. It cuts a 6-32 UNC thread to a 3B class of fit using a plug chamfer style, making it well suited for tapping operations where the chip is pushed forward ahead of the cutting teeth rather than extracted toward the operator. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, which extends tool life by increasing surface hardness and reducing friction. With a thread limit designation of H2, this tap holds tight pitch-diameter tolerances appropriate for precision threaded assemblies. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is intended for use in a wide range of metal materials including alloy steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, hardened steel, die steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, and cast aluminum. Its 3-flute geometry and spiral point design make it particularly productive in CNC tapping centers and rigid tapping setups where through-hole threading is required. The tap belongs to OSG Series 16515, a high-performance spiral point line engineered for demanding production environments where tool consistency and thread quality are critical.
Designed for through-hole tapping in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel workpieces. This tap does not support coolant-through delivery and is not intended for interrupted-thread applications.
Installation of this tap should be performed by a qualified machinist using a rigid tapping setup or a CNC machining center with synchronized spindle control to avoid thread pitch errors. Before tapping, verify that the drilled hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for 6-32 UNC to achieve proper thread engagement percentage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the specific workpiece material to extend tool life. Never reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine is configured for thread-synchronized retraction.
