The OSG 1651002108 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for threading M16x2.00 metric coarse holes in production and maintenance machining environments. Built from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and coated with TiCN for extended tool life, this tap features a 3-flute plug chamfer geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cut. It carries a 6H class of fit and D7 thread limit, producing threads within tight tolerance for precision assemblies. With a 110 mm overall length and 24 mm thread length, it is suited for through-hole tapping applications where chip evacuation is a priority. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists in metalworking shops are the primary users.
This tap is intended for right-hand threading in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Documented material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate for through-hole applications in production runs where consistent thread form and chip control are critical. It is part of OSG Series 16510 and is positioned as a high-performance tooling option for demanding cutting conditions.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines configured for M16x2.00 metric coarse threading operations. Compatible with the material types listed in the application paragraph above. Part of OSG Series 16510.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the specific workpiece material. Always ensure the spindle is stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or removing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to manage heat and prolong tool life. Verify that tapping speed and feed rate are set per the tool manufacturer recommendations for the target material before beginning a cut.
