The OSG 1651000808 is a spiral point tap designed for threading M6x1.00 metric coarse holes in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from powdered metal (grade PMT15) and coated with TiCN, this plug-chamfer tap handles demanding production environments where tool life and thread quality are priorities. It carries a 6H class of fit and a D5 thread limit, producing accurate internal threads suitable for close-tolerance assemblies. With a 3-flute spiral point geometry, chips are pushed ahead of the cutting edge, keeping the flutes clear during through-hole tapping. Overall length is 80 mm with a 12 mm thread length. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom professionals using CNC machining centers, tapping heads, or manual tapping equipment.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping operations in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. It is appropriate for both production-volume and maintenance machining applications where a metric M6x1.00 thread is required. The plug chamfer makes it effective for through-hole work where thread engagement can begin away from the hole bottom. Right-hand thread direction matches standard metric fastener requirements.
Designed for use in standard M6x1.00 metric coarse through-hole tapping applications across alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 16510 high-performance spiral point taps.
Installation is performed by machinists using CNC machining centers, tapping heads, or hand-tapping equipment rated for M6 metric taps. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled hole before engagement. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace at the first sign of cutting-edge degradation to avoid thread damage or tap breakage.
