The OSG 1650509308 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It features a 45-degree helix angle and three right-hand spiral flutes that evacuate chips up and out of the hole, making it well suited for blind-hole tapping applications where chip packing is a concern. The powdered metal construction delivers increased wear resistance over standard high-speed steel, and the V coating reduces friction and extends tool life in demanding materials. The bottoming chamfer allows threading to the bottom of a blind hole, maximizing thread engagement in shallow workpieces.
This tap is intended for use in machine tapping operations on materials including low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, hardened steel, cast iron, aluminum, and cast aluminum. It is sized for 6-32 UNC threads at a 3B class of fit, making it appropriate for standard-tolerance fastener applications in precision machined components, structural assemblies, and general shop work. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working in manufacturing or job shop environments are the primary users.
Designed for machine tapping of 6-32 UNC blind holes in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel at a 3B class of fit.
This tap should be installed in a tapping head or CNC spindle capable of maintaining proper feed rate and synchronized reversal to avoid tap breakage. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 6-32 UNC before tapping. Use a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping regularly, as bottoming taps operating at full depth are subject to elevated torque loads.
