The OSG 1650011408 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting internal metric fine threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. It produces an M8x1.00 thread profile using a bottoming chamfer, making it the right choice when threads must run close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 45-degree helix angle drives chips up and out of the flute during tapping, reducing the risk of chip packing. Manufactured from powdered metal and finished with a V coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance compared to standard HSS. Three flutes provide a balance of chip clearance and thread contact. A licensed machinist or tool-and-die technician is the typical installer.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance machining operations in job shops, manufacturing plants, and maintenance facilities. The bottoming chamfer geometry is particularly useful in blind-hole applications where full thread engagement depth is required. Material compatibility covers a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including alloy steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, cast iron, hardened steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and cast aluminum. It is sold individually and fits standard tap holders and chucks sized for an 8.772 mm shank diameter.
Designed for use in standard tap holders and machine spindles accepting an 8.772 mm shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand tapping operations producing M8x1.00 metric fine internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel workpieces.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the tap holder or chuck is properly sized for the shank diameter before use. Blind-hole depth should be verified before selecting a bottoming tap to confirm adequate chip clearance is available. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life.
