The OSG 1635081219 is a thread forming tap designed for M8x1.25 metric threads with a 6H class of fit and a bottoming chamfer. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high speed steel with a V-coating finish, making it well suited for demanding production and maintenance applications. It has an overall length of 90 millimeters and a thread length of 12 millimeters, with a tapping depth of 35 millimeters. The D9 thread limit designation ensures dimensional accuracy for standard 6H tolerance threads. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance professionals are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is engineered for blind hole threading operations across a wide range of materials. Its cobalt construction and V-coating support use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The bottoming chamfer with 1.5 to 2 threads of lead allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, which is critical in tight-tolerance machining scenarios. It belongs to the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16350 product line.
Designed for M8x1.25 metric blind hole threading applications in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16350.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size, which is larger than the drill size used for cutting taps — always consult a forming tap drill chart for M8x1.25 before drilling the pilot hole. Ensure proper lubrication or tapping fluid is applied, as thread forming generates higher torque than cutting taps, particularly in harder alloys. Power down or disengage the spindle before manually reversing or removing the tap from a blind hole. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tapping speed and torque settings.
