The OSG 1635008015 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. It operates by displacing material rather than removing it, producing stronger thread forms with better surface finish compared to cut taps. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, it carries a 4H class of fit and D5 thread limit. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16350, this tap is suited for production environments where tool life and thread quality are critical priorities.
This tap is rated for use in a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. It handles both blind hole and through-hole threading applications with M8x1.00 Metric Fine thread form. Typical users include machinists and tooling specialists working in job shops, aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing environments. The right-hand thread direction is standard for most production setups.
Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. Material application codes P, M, N, and H per ISO designations. Suitable for standard M8x1.00 Metric Fine threaded hole applications requiring a 4H class of fit.
Thread forming taps require tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material — do not run dry, especially in steel or titanium. Ensure the tap driver or CNC spindle is set for the correct feed rate matching the thread pitch to avoid tap breakage. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and confirm pilot hole diameter meets the recommended forming tap drill size for M8x1.00. Cobalt taps are brittle under side-load — use rigid tapping where possible.
