The OSG 1625583225 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metallic materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap features a semi-bottoming chamfer, an H5 thread limit, and a cobalt construction that handles demanding applications where standard high speed steel taps fall short. The overall length is 3.15 inches (80 mm) with a thread length of 0.39 inches (11 mm). A V-coating finish reduces friction and extends tool life in production environments. It is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading operations in both shop and field environments. The semi-bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole while still providing a lead-in for alignment. Compatible material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The 2B class of fit meets standard tolerance requirements for general-purpose 8-32 UNC threaded assemblies. This tool is appropriate for CNC tapping, drill press setups, and hand-tapping operations requiring tight thread tolerance control.
Designed for threading 8-32 UNC holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces requiring a 2B class of fit.
This tap is installed by machinists using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC spindle with appropriate torque control. Always ensure the pilot hole diameter is sized correctly for thread forming taps, as these require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps for the same thread size. Power down or de-energize any machine tool before loading or changing tooling. Follow applicable shop safety standards and manufacturer pilot hole charts for thread forming applications to avoid tap breakage or oversize threads.
