The OSG 1625514226 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metal workpieces. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove chips, producing stronger threads with a smoother finish. This tap features a semi-bottoming chamfer, allowing it to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. Built from cobalt high speed steel with a V-coating finish, it delivers extended tool life in demanding production and maintenance machining environments. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users of this tap in shop, field, and manufacturing settings.
This tap is suited for threading aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The semi-bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate for blind-hole applications where thread depth close to the bottom is required. With a thread length of 0.526 inches (15 mm), an overall length of 3.937 inches (100 mm), and a right-hand thread direction, this tap fits standard machine tapping setups and manual tap handles with the correct square drive size.
