The OSG 1625076205 is a thread forming tap designed for creating 7/16-20 UNF internal threads in production and maintenance machining applications. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, this tap generates threads by displacing material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. It carries a 3B class of fit and H5 thread limit for consistent, controlled thread geometry. Machinists and tool and die technicians install this tap on CNC machining centers, manual mills, and tapping attachments.
This tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading operations across a wide range of materials. The EXOPRO XPF series is engineered for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. It is commonly used in precision manufacturing, aerospace component work, and general metalworking shops where thread strength and surface finish are critical. The right-hand thread direction and standard shank make it compatible with conventional tapping chucks and holders.
Designed for blind hole and through-hole threading of 7/16-20 UNF threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250.
Thread forming taps require correct pre-drill hole sizing specific to the material and desired fit class — consult a thread forming tap drill chart before selecting the pilot hole diameter. Ensure the spindle is set for rigid tapping mode on CNC equipment and that appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil is applied for the workpiece material. Secure the tap in a floating or rigid tapping holder per the machine manufacturer specifications. Inspect the tap and holder for runout before starting to avoid tap breakage or off-tolerance threads.
