The OSG 1625058117 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-form threading in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove chips, producing strong, work-hardened threads with no swarf. This tap is built from cobalt high-speed steel for elevated heat and wear resistance, and carries a TiCN coating for reduced friction and extended tool life. It is configured for 5/8-11 UNC threads at a 3B class of fit with an H7 thread limit, and features a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 4.33 inches with a thread length of 0.91 inches. It belongs to the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250 line and is intended for use by machining professionals and toolroom technicians.
This tap is suited for blind hole and through-hole threading applications in production machining, job shop, and toolroom environments. Its material application range covers aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium, corresponding to material application codes P, M, N, and H. It is appropriate for CNC tapping centers and rigid tapping setups where coolant-through tooling is not required.
Designed for blind hole and through-hole threading in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250 product line.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with tapping operations on CNC or manual equipment. Power down and secure all equipment before installing or changing tooling. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and lubrication requirements for the specific workpiece material before starting the tapping cycle. This tap does not support coolant-through operation; apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil externally as required by the material being threaded.
