The OSG 1625038245 is a thread forming tap in the EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, designed for roll-form threading in both blind-hole and through-hole applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chip generation. It is configured to the 3/8-24 UNF thread standard, Class 3B fit, with an H5 thread limit and a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads. Overall length is 3.937 inches (100 mm), with a thread length of 0.625 inches. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in production and repair environments.
This tap is suited for threading ductile materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole while still providing controlled thread engagement. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping fixtures in both production shops and MRO settings where Class 3B thread accuracy is required.
Designed for use in blind-hole and through-hole threading of ductile metals including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. Material Application Codes: P, M, N, H.
Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size larger than a standard cutting tap drill for the same thread form — consult the appropriate form-tap drill chart for 3/8-24 UNF before drilling. Ensure the workpiece material is ductile enough for roll-forming; do not use forming taps on cast iron or brittle materials. Power down or lock out all machine motion before changing or setting the tap in the holder. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to maximize tool life.
