The OSG 1625014204 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting chips. It produces a 1/4-20 UNC thread to a 3B class of fit with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2.5 to 3 threads. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiCN coating for heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. Overall length is 3.1496 inches with a thread length of 0.5264 inches and a tapping depth of 1.2070 inches. The shank diameter measures 0.2550 inches. The H4 thread limit provides controlled oversize for plating applications or tight-tolerance work. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, and machinists handling field threading tasks will find this tap suited to production and repair work.
This tap is rated for blind-hole and through-hole threading applications across a broad range of workpiece materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. It is part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250 product line, which targets demanding threading applications where chip evacuation is a concern and cold-forming is preferred. Right-hand thread direction only.
Designed for blind-hole and through-hole threading of 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF Series 16250.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication or cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material; dry running is not recommended. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before engagement to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. Always use a calibrated tap handle or CNC tapping cycle with synchronized feed to match the 20 threads-per-inch pitch. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and OSHA machine-guarding requirements when operating drilling or milling equipment.
