The OSG 1625004485 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 4-48 UNF internal threads without cutting chips. Part of the EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, it uses a modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, making it well suited for both blind hole and through-hole applications where a full thread close to the bottom of the hole is required. Constructed from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers increased wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The H5 thread limit supports accurate 2B class of fit results in production environments.
This tap is intended for threading operations in machining, fabrication, and tool-and-die environments. It is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The 4-48 UNF thread form is commonly used in precision assemblies, electronics, and small-fastener applications where fine-pitch threads are specified. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes than a standard plug tap permits.
Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, hardened steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Suitable for blind hole and through-hole threading applications requiring a 4-48 UNF 2B thread form.
Thread forming taps are installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping arms with appropriate torque control. Ensure correct tap drill diameter for the material and desired thread engagement before starting. Use a compatible tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material to maintain tool life and thread quality. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the tap manufacturer recommendations for the specific material being threaded.
