The OSG 1625001643 is a thread forming tap designed for creating internal 1-64 UNC threads in a wide range of metals. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chip generation. This tap features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of blind holes. It is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, which extends tool life in demanding materials. The H3 thread limit designation ensures dimensional control within standard tolerance ranges. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and maintenance professionals working with precision fastener applications will find this tap suited to both blind hole and through-hole threading operations.
This tap is built for use across a broad material range including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. This tap should be installed in a machine spindle or tapping head appropriate for the 1-64 thread size; hand tapping is not recommended for forming taps in harder materials. Follow applicable shop safety standards and verify tap alignment before engagement to prevent tap breakage in small-diameter holes.
