The OSG 1625001088 is a thread forming tap designed for high-torque cold-forming applications in demanding production environments. Part of the EXOPRO XPF Series 16250, it cuts no chips — instead displacing material to produce stronger, work-hardened internal threads. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel for elevated heat resistance and is finished with a TiCN coating to reduce friction and extend tool life. It is configured to a Modified Bottoming chamfer with 2.5 to 3 chamfered threads, making it suitable for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 6.30 inches (160 mm) with a 1.25-inch thread length and a shank diameter of 0.80 inches. Thread limit is H8. Machinists, toolroom operators, and production floor technicians install this tool in standard CNC tapping cycles or rigid tapping setups.
This tap is used for producing 1-8 UNC, Class 3B internal threads in both blind hole and through-hole configurations. Its cobalt substrate and TiCN coating make it effective across a wide range of workpiece materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. It is suited to production machining environments where thread quality and tool life are priorities, particularly where chip evacuation in blind holes is a concern and cold-forming is preferred over cutting.
Designed for producing 1-8 UNC Class 3B internal threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium workpieces in blind hole and through-hole applications per material application codes P, M, N, and H.
This tap should be installed in a rigid tapping holder or synchronized tapping chuck matched to the 0.80-inch shank diameter and 0.60-inch square drive. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the workpiece material before starting — thread forming generates higher torque than cutting taps, so machine torque capacity must be confirmed. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil before engaging the workpiece; do not run dry. Disengage machine power and secure the workpiece before any manual tap removal or tool change.
