The OSG 1615081219 is a thread forming tap designed for M8x1.25 metric threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is built from cobalt high speed steel with a V-coating and features a bottoming chamfer of 1.5 to 2 threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of a blind bore. The EXOPRO XPF-OIL series design includes coolant-through capability, making it suitable for CNC tapping centers and automated production environments. Overall length is 3.54 inches (90 mm) with a tapping depth of 1.38 inches (35 mm).
This tap is suited for threading a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, and titanium. The bottoming chamfer makes it the correct choice when thread engagement must start close to the blind hole floor. It is commonly used in precision machining, toolroom work, and production tapping where a strong, chip-free thread form is required. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using CNC machining centers or manual tapping equipment.
Designed for blind hole threading in aluminum, cast aluminum, hardened steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Material application codes P, M, N, and H. Suitable for use with standard M8 tapping holders and CNC tooling that accepts the 8.08 mm shank diameter.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — do not use standard cut-tap drill sizes, as the hole diameter must be slightly larger to allow material displacement. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tapping axis is aligned to avoid tap breakage. Use appropriate tapping fluid or engage the coolant-through feature when running in CNC equipment. Inspect the tap for wear or deformation before each use, particularly when working in hardened or high-nickel alloy materials.
