The OSG 1615020111 is a thread forming tap designed for M20x1.50 metric blind hole threading applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is built from cobalt high speed steel with a V-coating finish and features a bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. With an overall length of 4.921 inches and a thread length of 0.984 inches, it is engineered for precision metric threading in demanding production and maintenance environments. It is installed by licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working with CNC or manual tapping equipment.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium. The bottoming chamfer style with 1.5 to 2 chamfered threads allows the tap to begin forming threads very close to the bottom of a blind hole. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed tapping operations where internal coolant delivery is available. The D11 thread limit and 6H class of fit ensure consistent thread tolerance compliance in metric applications.
Designed for M20x1.50 metric blind hole threading applications across aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 16150 EXOPRO XPF-OIL product line.
This tap is installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using appropriate tapping equipment capable of delivering the correct torque for M20 thread forming in the intended workpiece material. Power down and lock out all machine tools before changing or inspecting tooling. Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication or coolant flow — verify the machine spindle supports coolant-through delivery when using this tap at production speeds. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when setting tapping depth to avoid bottoming out the tap against the hole floor.
