The OSG 1605076248 is a thread forming tap designed for right-hand, through-hole threading applications in demanding industrial and machining environments. Part of the OSG EXOPRO XPF-OIL Series 16050, this plug chamfer tap produces a 7/16-20 UNF internal thread to a 2B class of fit with an H8 thread limit. Constructed from cobalt high-speed steel with a V coating, it handles elevated cutting temperatures and maintains edge integrity across a wide range of workpiece materials. Overall length is 3.937 inches with a thread length of 0.713 inches and a tapping depth of 1.713 inches. Coolant-through design supports consistent chip evacuation and thermal management during high-cycle production runs.
This tap is suited for production machining, toolroom work, and maintenance applications where a precise 7/16-20 UNF through-hole thread is required. The plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads makes it appropriate for through-hole entry. It is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium, covering material application codes P, M, K, N, and H. Machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators working across job shop and production environments are the primary users of this tap.
Designed for through-hole threading operations producing a 7/16-20 UNF right-hand internal thread. Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, and titanium workpiece materials.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with tapping parameters for cobalt tooling. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and cutting fluid compatibility with the workpiece material before use. Secure the tap in a suitable tap holder or rigid tapping chuck to prevent misalignment and tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or damage before each use, and never force a tap that has bottomed out or encountered unexpected resistance.
