The OSG 1593608 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, this tap handles everything from low-carbon and medium-carbon steel to cast iron, hardened steel, and aluminum. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, keeping flutes clear and reducing the risk of chip packing in through-hole applications. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 0.54-inch thread length, it fits standard tap handles and CNC tapping chucks for the 10-32 size range.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance environments where 10-32 UNF through-hole tapping is common — including machine shops, HVAC equipment assembly, electrical enclosure fabrication, and general mechanical repair. The plug chamfer (3-5 lead threads) makes it the standard choice for through-hole applications and most blind-hole work where a starting chamfer is acceptable. The +0.005 inch oversize thread limit (H-limit) compensates for spring-back in tougher materials and is the typical spec for coated taps used in steel.
Designed for cutting 10-32 UNF right-hand internal threads. Compatible material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Part of the OSG Series 105H coated tap line.
Use a calibrated tap handle or CNC rigid-tapping cycle appropriate for the 10-32 size. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before starting. Apply a cutting fluid or tapping compound suited to the workpiece material — TiCN-coated taps still benefit from lubrication in steel and cast iron. Inspect tap condition before each use; TiCN coating wear is visible as dulling of the gold-to-violet surface color, and a worn tap will produce out-of-tolerance threads or break under load.
