The OSG 1593201 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading 5/8-11 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations where chip evacuation is critical. Manufactured from high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, this tap provides a degree of lubricity and corrosion resistance that extends tool life in production and maintenance tapping applications. The +0.005 inch oversize thread limit (H limit) accommodates plating allowances or fits requiring a slightly looser tolerance class. Installation is handled by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades.
This tap is designed for through-hole tapping in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across several leading threads, making it appropriate for both machine tapping and hand tapping in a drill press or CNC machining center. The 3-flute configuration balances chip flow and tool body strength for the 5/8-11 thread size. It is a common choice in general fabrication, MRO maintenance, and production shops running a variety of steel and aluminum workpieces.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 5/8-11 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Compatible with standard tapping chucks and holders accepting a 0.48 inch shank diameter.
Power down or de-energize any machine tool before mounting or removing taps. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Ensure the tap is driven concentric to the pre-drilled hole to prevent deflection and tap breakage. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when operating drill presses or CNC equipment.
