The OSG 1415004008 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal M10x1.50 metric coarse threads in blind holes. Unlike cutting taps, this tool displaces material rather than removing chips, producing stronger threads with a superior surface finish. Built from powdered metal high-speed steel (PM-HSS) and finished with a TiCN coating under the EXOTAP VP-NRT trade name, it handles demanding materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. At 2.9134 inches overall length with an 0.7087-inch thread length, this tap fits standard tapping heads and CNC rigid-tap setups.
This tap is suited for production machining environments where chip-free blind hole threading is required. Typical applications include threading bores in automotive components, structural steel assemblies, and precision machined parts where thread strength and consistency matter. It carries a Class of Fit 3B with a D6 thread limit, meeting standard tolerance requirements for metric fastener assemblies. Right-hand thread direction makes it compatible with conventional CNC and manual tapping operations. The EXOTAP VP-NRT series is engineered for use in alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and die steel with material application codes P, M, and N.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Compatible with standard M10x1.50 metric coarse thread applications requiring a Class 3B fit. Part of the OSG EXOTAP VP-NRT Series 14150.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist using a rigid tapping cycle or a synchronized tapping head to prevent tap breakage. Power down all equipment and secure the workpiece before setup. Verify hole diameter and depth meet the tap manufacturer drill chart recommendations for M10x1.50 thread forming before tapping. Do not use this tap in through-hole applications where chip evacuation is the primary concern, as thread forming taps require ductile materials with sufficient elongation for cold working.
