The OSG 1415003208 is a thread forming tap in the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, designed for cold-form tapping of blind holes in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Rather than cutting material away, it displaces and cold-works the workpiece to produce strong, chip-free internal threads. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel and carries a TiCN coating for extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding applications. The modified bottoming chamfer, with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole where a standard plug chamfer cannot reach. This tool is used primarily by machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators.
The 1415003208 is suited for blind hole threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The M8x1.25 metric coarse thread form and right-hand thread direction make it a standard choice for general-purpose metric fastener applications in automotive, aerospace, mold-and-die, and general metalworking environments. The D5 thread limit and 3B class of fit target standard tolerance requirements for metric fastener holes. No coolant-through capability is present, so external or flood coolant application is typical in production settings.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P, M, and N apply per the supplier specification.
Thread forming taps require higher torque than cutting taps of equivalent size and should be used with a tapping fluid or appropriate cutting oil matched to the workpiece material. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are set for form tapping, as these differ from cut tapping parameters. Use a properly sized tap wrench or CNC tapping cycle with rigid or floating holder to avoid overloading the shank. Always confirm the pilot hole diameter is sized for thread forming, not thread cutting, before use.
