The OSG 1415001908 is a bottoming thread forming tap designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this tool displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear from the hole. It is manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, providing hardness and wear resistance for demanding production environments. With a D6 thread limit and Class 2B fit, it delivers consistent thread geometry suited to precision mechanical assemblies. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this tap in CNC tapping centers and manual machines where thread quality and tool life are priorities.
This tap is built for blind hole threading across a broad range of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its bottoming chamfer with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for compact fastener applications in tight-tolerance components. The EXOTAP VP-NRT series is engineered for form tapping in production machining where chip evacuation is a concern or where thread strength requirements exceed what a cut thread can provide.
Designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Part of the OSG EXOTAP VP-NRT series, Series 14150.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size — do not use standard cut tap drill charts, as the recommended hole diameter is larger than for cut tapping. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the tapping spindle is properly aligned before engaging the tap. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to reduce friction and heat. Always follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when operating tapping equipment.
